Created by the Guardian Aegwynn (Medivh's mother) and later corrupted by Sargeras's influence, this staff was entrusted to Medivh during his youth. Unbeknownst to him at first, Medivh himself—corrupted by Sargeras—served as the conduit for the Burning Legion's will, using his own power to open the Dark Portal and facilitate the invasion of Azeroth. After Medivh's death, the staff was recovered from the Tomb of Sargeras and other locations, its power dormant but its history stained by fel energy that nearly destroyed the world. Decades later, during the Legion expansion, the Priest class order campaign sought to reclaim this relic from the Tomb of Sargeras, recognizing that the artifact's immense magical potential could be turned against the demons who originally corrupted it. They oversaw a ritual of purification in Dalaran and across the Broken Isles. The staff was cleansed of its fel taint and reborn as Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian.
