Death of Sargeras

The Dark Titan falls, but his shadow lingers over the world.

The Death of Sargeras marks the climactic conclusion of the Burning Legion's invasion during the Legion expansion. As the Dark Titan and leader of the demonic horde, his fall represents a turning point in the cosmic struggle between order and chaos. While his physical avatar was destroyed on Argus, the aftermath of his final act left a lasting scar upon Azeroth itself.

Lore & Background

The aftermath revealed that Sargeras' defeat on Argus marked the end of his direct threat, not a calculated move within a larger cosmic game. His sword, the Sword of Sargeras, remained impaled in Silithus, wounding Azeroth and triggering the Azerite crisis that forced the Alliance and Horde to address the lingering threat during the Battle for Azeroth. Ultimately, his demise signaled the collapse of the Legion's primary leadership. The Void Lords did corrupt Sargeras indirectly by showing him visions of the Void's potential to corrupt all worlds, leading to his fall after he was already a Titan—Titans are born as world-souls and ascend to full Titanhood, and his corruption took hold after his ascension and his joining of the Pantheon.

In Their Own Story

The sky above Argus burned with unnatural green fire as the Titan fell. Sargeras looked down at the coalition that had gathered to end him, his face a mask of ancient fury and twisted purpose. With a final roar that shook the foundations of the planet, he was struck down by the combined might of mortals and heroes alike. As his massive form crumbled into dust, silence fell over the realm, broken only by the distant sound of steel piercing stone on another world entirely.

Reader's Guide

The journey begins with the invasion of the Burning Legion, forcing champions to unite across factions. Players travel to Argus, liberating the Draenei and reclaiming the Temple of the Lightforged. The final assault takes place at the Seat of Sargeras, where the Dark Titan is confronted directly. Upon his defeat, Sargeras impales Azeroth with his sword before his consciousness fades. This act triggers the corruption events seen in subsequent expansions, altering the fate of the planet.
