Garrosh's rule descended into madness after his experiments with the Sha corrupted his judgment. He ordered attacks on Theramore and sought to use dark power, alienating key figures like Sylvanas Windrunner and Thrall. In response, Vol'jin organized a resistance within the Horde, coordinating internal efforts while Thrall and Varian Wrynn facilitated the primary diplomatic bridge between the rebels and Alliance leaders like Jaina Proudmoore. The coalition was not formed through direct contact initiated solely by Vol'jin to her; rather, it emerged from broader negotiations among the faction leaders.

In Their Own Story

Smoke choked the air above the Valley of Spirits as the great gates groaned under siege engines. A young orc rebel looked up from behind a crate, clutching a jagged spear. Kor'kron guards marched past, their armor gleaming with unnatural green energy, while Alliance knights and Horde rogues moved in the shadows together. The roar of battle echoed off the stone walls; this was not the war they were taught to fight, but the only way to save their home from a brother gone mad.

Reader's Guide

The conflict begins when Vol'jin rallies disaffected members of the Horde to oppose Garrosh's tyranny. They coordinate with Alliance champions to assault Orgrimmar, starting at the Gates where they face elite Kor'kron defenses. Progressing through the city, heroes liberate prisoners and dismantle Garrosh’s war machine, including his experimentation on the Sha. The final confrontation occurs in the Throne Room, where Garrosh attempts to use a powerful artifact to destroy his enemies. Instead of killing him, the coalition decides to imprison him using time magic to prevent future corruption, though this decision proves complicated later. This event fundamentally shifted the political landscape of Azeroth. It ended the Second War's lingering shadow and established that Horde leadership requires accountability. However, it also sowed seeds of distrust within the Alliance regarding the use of time manipulation on a Warchief. The Siege remains a symbol of unity against tyranny.

• Vol'jin served as the de facto leader of the Horde resistance during the assault.
